Egypt's Higher Education Ministry responded to the recently circulated reports about the suspension of universities and the postponement of second semester exams for two weeks, according to Sputnik news agency.

In an official statement, the ministry said, '"The viral decision about universities' suspension and converting all university hospitals into quarantine hospitals is completely baseless."

Moreover, the ministry confirmed, "It has taken all legal measures against the promoters of these rumors."

It is worth mentioning, a hashtag for suspending schools and universities in Egypt on Twitter is trending due to fears over the rising number of Coronavirus infections.

On Friday, Egypt saw a rise in the daily coronavirus cases, confirming 1,113 new infections, raising the total cases to 130,126 since the beginning of the virus outbreak.

“Forty-nine more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 7,309,” Khaled Megahed, the Health Ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement.
