Hezbollah said it launched rockets at Israeli military positions south of the Lebanese town of Khiam on Tuesday, as clashes intensified along the Lebanon–Israel border amid reports of Israeli airstrikes and attempts to advance on the ground.

The Iran-backed group announced that it had targeted Israeli sites near Khiam with rockets, according to a breaking news report carried by Egypt’s Al-Qahera News channel.

Meanwhile, Lebanese media reported that Israeli forces carried out two airstrikes on the southern areas of Tyre and Qabrikha. Another report said Israeli forces targeted a building that had been previously warned of a possible strike in the Tyre district in southern Lebanon.

The developments come as fighting escalates in several parts of southern Lebanon. Heavy clashes were reported overnight, particularly around the border town of Khiam, where Hezbollah said it confronted Israeli troops attempting to advance and struck three Merkava tanks.

Ground movements were not limited to Khiam, with Israeli forces reportedly attempting to push forward in the towns of Houla and Aitaroun in the Bint Jbeil district, within the eastern and central sectors of southern Lebanon.

According to field reports, Israeli forces also called on residents to evacuate several border villages. United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops, in coordination with the Lebanese army, assisted in evacuating residents from the town of Alma al-Shaab.

The escalating confrontation has worsened the humanitarian situation, with the number of displaced people in Lebanon rising to around 700,000, as Israeli airstrikes continued to hit several areas, including the southern cities of Tyre and Sidon.

The ongoing escalation has raised concerns of a broader conflict along the Israel-Lebanon frontier, as cross-border attacks and military operations intensify.
