Hezbollah has intensified its cross-border attacks, launching dozens of rockets and drones toward northern Israel in what appears to be a strategy aimed at overwhelming and exhausting Israeli air defense systems, according to Israeli official media.
Israel’s public broadcaster reported that approximately 40 rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles were fired toward border areas, reaching as far south as Haifa. Israeli air defense systems intercepted a number of the incoming projectiles, though the full extent of damage or casualties remains unclear.
Israeli security and military officials had previously warned of such tactics, citing intelligence indicating preparations for large-scale barrages by Hezbollah. The apparent objective is to create confusion within Israel’s multi-layered air defense network and gradually deplete its interception capabilities.
The escalation comes amid ongoing hostilities along the Israeli-Lebanese border, where exchanges of fire have intensified in recent days. Analysts say the use of combined rocket and drone attacks reflects an effort to test the limits of Israel’s defense systems under sustained pressure.
Despite the uptick in attacks, Israel has so far refrained from evacuating northern border towns and settlements, a departure from measures taken during previous conflicts. Israeli authorities have emphasized that they will not allow Hezbollah to force the displacement of residents from these areas.
The situation remains volatile, with fears that continued escalation could trigger a broader regional confrontation.
