In light of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s affirmation of the ministry’s commitment to empowering women across academic and research sectors, and creating a motivating work environment that enhances their active participation in scientific and developmental progress, Helwan University -under the leadership of Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of the University- continues to implement specialized programs aimed at supporting women’s issues and combating all forms of violence against them.
These efforts are carried out through various activities led by the University’s Anti-Violence Against Women Unit, affiliated with the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector. The unit is headed by Dr. Walid El-Sorougy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Dr. Samah Rabie, Professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit.
Key initiatives and activities include:
• Organizing a series of awareness seminars and training workshops addressing societal violence, harassment, and digital abuse.
• Launching programs to empower girls with disabilities and promote the concept of equal opportunities within the university community.
• Building effective partnerships with national entities such as:
a) The National Council for Women
b) Civil society organizations
c) Specialized research centers
These efforts highlight Helwan University’s commitment to its pioneering role in combating violence against women and affirm its dedication to fostering a safe and equitable university environment that supports women’s rights and contributes to their empowerment both on and off campus.
