Helwan Univ. Pres: We Try to Combat Coronavirus Cases, Prepare for Final Exams

Dr. Majed Negm, the Helwan University President, said that the university received a patients number of "Covid-19", in addition, the university is preparing for the final exams with specific criteria.

SeeNews conducted an interview with Dr. Negm. In it, he explained the university’s efforts in trying to combat covid-19 and the preparation of final exams.

Here is the excerpts of an interview.

Q: When did the university campuses started receiving new Coronavirus patients?

We started receiving a patients approximately two weeks ago, until now, with fluctuating numbers; we have no limit for them. It is important to mention that the reception of patients by the university campuses is not for critical cases, but rather for minor cases with hopes of recovery.

Q: How many buildings have been prepared to receive patients?

6 buildings with a capacity of 600 beds are equipped to isolate these patients.

Q: What is the cost for equipping university campuses to be a healthy insulation for Coronavirus patients?

We only hand the buildings over to the Health Ministry, which it take care of the equipment completely.

Q: What is the fate of those buildings after the pandemic end ?

Of course, it will be well sterilized in order to receive students.

Q: Some students raised complaints about the loss of their belongings in campuses. Has Helwan university addressed this issue?

All the students received their belongings; if something was lost, the university will compensate the student for this matter. Due to the preparation and evacuation of the buildings within few hours, the loss of properties can’t be avoided.

Q: Will lessons be converted to electronic after the end of the pandemic?

We have a vision that the courses ought to be transferred 30% electronically upon return to normal study; this will reduce the students’ presence at the university for a day or two.

This will have direct effects on many other things such as reducing electricity consumption inside the classes, in addition traffic reduction.

Q: What is the plan for final exams at Helwan university?

We will established standards to ensure the students safety by having sufficient distances between the student , distributing masks before entering the committees, as well as sterilization through the designated sterilization portals for that.
