Students of the Faculty of Engineering at Helwan University succeded to design and manufacture a new innovative project "Protective Masks Against COVID-19" through integrating the 3D Printer with the Revese Engineering system under the patronage of Dr. Maged Negm, President of the University and Dr. Ahmed Al-Garhi, Dean of the College.

As one of the practical applications of the project, a mask was made of PLA material which was designed by prusa international company to benefit from the practical applications of graduation projects in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for this year 2020.

Protective Masks Against COVID-19

The practical application of the project aims to manufacture a mask that achieves the highest protection against infection with the novel coronavirus, while reducing the costs of using the used fabric masks, as the mask is made from a coherent and light material on the face in addition to being for personal use only and can be sterilized and reused permanently.

The mask manufactured by Helwan engineering students consists of three parts: the first part is responsible for covering part of the sides of the face in addition to the nose. The second part is breathable passages and the third part is a cover that is installed after applying the filter between the second and third parts.

Moreover, a complete face shield has also been implemented to protect the eye from infection and is also designed by Prusa International Company and manufactured by the college laboratories with the support of the Academic Research Academy through the project team from the fourth year students of the Division of Production Engineering (Mohamed Abdel Ati Abdel Mohsen, Mohamed Sayed Abdullah Mahmoud Mohamed Mahmoud, Youssef Emad Ahmed, Sama Ahmed Kamal, Ahmed Mohamed Hassan) under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Hammoud Ahmed, teacher at the Mechanical Engineering Department and the project supervisor.
