The Israeli Prison Service has ordered the cutting of electricity to Palestinian prisoners, to completely isolate them from the outside world, Hebrew media reported Wednesday.
Israeli Newspapers quoted senior officials in the Prison Service as confirming that “electricity has been cut off from all Palestinian prisoners.”
The officials said, "The cutting of electricity to the wards housing the prisoners was ordered by the Commissioner of the Israeli Prison Service, Katy Perry."
The Israeli officials stated that the goal is to "prevent prisoners from communicating with the outside world and issuing instructions via smuggled phones that they will not be able to charge after the electricity is disconnected."
On Saturday, Perry decided to detain all Palestinian prisoners in their cells and to remove all public phones from prisons following the military escalation in the Gaza Strip.
The number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons is about 5,100, including 36 female prisoners, 170 children, and more than 1,200 administrative detainees, according to institutions specialized in their affairs.
However, Last Saturday, Hamas launched Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood,” during which Israel was targeted with several thousand missiles from the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian fighters also carried out specific operations.
