Heavy snowfall has disrupted train services across the Netherlands, causing delays, cancellations, and reduced operations on several railway lines.
Dutch railway operator NS reported that freezing technical equipment, particularly rail switches, has created ongoing problems for train operations. The company warned that disruptions could continue as the cold weather affects critical railway infrastructure.
In a statement, NS explained that it remains difficult to accurately predict which areas will experience delays as conditions continue to change.
Several rail routes have already seen reduced services or temporary suspensions. High-speed train services between Rotterdam and Breda were affected after a malfunction in a rail switch.
Sprinter train services were also canceled on multiple routes, including Tilburg University to Eindhoven, Zwolle to Leeuwarden, and Breda to Den Bosch, as railway crews work to manage the impact of the severe winter weather.
