At least six people are killed Friday including five in North Carolina, as Tropical Storm Eta soaked the southeast and landed in Florida for the second time in four days.

The National Hurricane Center said that heavy rain and floods in the state of Tar Heel were not directly related to the storm, but were part of the front boundary" that had extended north across the Carolinas on Thursday.

By Thursday night, the center of the storm was just off the coast of South Carolina, bringing heavy rain and gusts of wind to the area, the center said. Eta was moving northeast at 17 mph.

Authorities in Alexander County, North Carolina, said that three bodies had been discovered in a flooded campground some 60 miles north of Charlotte on Thursday morning. Thirty-one people have been rescued from the Hiddenite Family Campground and two people are still missing.

Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman said the campground had a fast-rising river that had been evacuated in the midst of heavy rain.
