Heavy rain and flash flooding swept across parts of Northern California, inundating roads, prompting rescue operations from vehicles and homes, and leaving at least one person dead, according to local authorities.

Emergency services reported widespread flooding after intense rainfall caused water levels to rise rapidly, trapping motorists who attempted to drive through flooded areas.

Police in the city of Redding said they received multiple calls from drivers stranded in submerged roads as conditions worsened over the weekend.

Redding Mayor Mike Lytle confirmed one fatality linked to the severe weather, though further details about the circumstances of the death were not immediately released. Rescue teams were also deployed to assist residents affected by flooding in residential areas.

Redding, home to around 93,000 people, is located approximately 160 miles north of Sacramento. The city and surrounding areas are known to be vulnerable to flash flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

Authorities urged residents to avoid flooded roads and remain alert as unstable weather conditions continue to affect parts of Northern California.

Emergency officials warned that additional rainfall could lead to further flooding, increasing risks for communities already impacted.
