Health Ministry Reveals More Details on Marburg

The Minister of Health asserted, Sunday, that the Marburg virus that emerged in Equatorial Guinea is a fatal one, therefore, the ministry issued a guide about the virus.

The minister underscored that there are no detected confirmed or suspected cases of the virus.

Ministry of Health's statements came after the latest outbroke of the virus in the African country.

It added that the guide is part of the early preparations of the country for any emergencies or infections, alongside the observation of the global medical situation.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health asserted that there is no confirmed or suspected Marburg in Egypt, according to the spokesperson of the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

Abdel Ghaffar highlighted that the Marburg virus was discovered in 1967, and it had different outbreaks before it outbroke once again last July in Ghana.

He asserted that there is a connection with the World Health Organization, asserting that it is not a respiratory virus. It can be transmitted through the blood or body fluids of the infected person.

The official added that the symptoms included fever, exhaustion, and bleeding. There are no vaccines or treatments for the virus. 

Therefore, there is a certain preparation by the sector of Preventive Medicine Sector to qualify the current spots of medical quarantine, in addition to qualifying the medical teams in all hospitals in Egypt.
