MoHP Launches Health-Care Program for Elderly over 65 for Life

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) confirmed that they launched "Continuing Health-care for the elderly" program, which aims to enhance the health state of the elderly aged over 65 years.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesperson of MoHP, indicated that improving the healthy life of the elderly will be through early detection of the most common health problems in this age group. That will be through 401 medical centers distributed among all health departments in 21 governorates as a first stage.

He demonstrated that the package of medical services provided to the elderly includes detection of non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, kidney failure, gastrointestinal diseases, and malnutrition (anemia, obesity), in addition to psychological and nutritional assessment.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the program provides also general clinical examination services, body mass index calculation, vision, and oral and dental examinations, in addition to tests (measuring hemoglobin, lipids, cholesterol, kidney function, random blood sugar test), as well as conducting electrocardiograms and ultrasounds on the abdomen and pelvis.

He continued saying the program provides health education and psychological support services to enhance the health of the elderly, and raise awareness of the elderly's health problems and how to prevent them, as well as providing nutritional advice in terms of eating meals at specific times and the balanced nutritional content necessary for the health state.

He stressed that patients are given a health follow-up card, for periodic follow-up of the health state, mainly 2 annual visits, pointing out that patients are referred to hospitals in case of need for advanced medical interventions, noting that the coordination between the "continuing Health Care for the Elderly" program and the "100 Million Seha" initiatives for their access to all necessary medical services within the initiatives for their access to all necessary medical services within the initiatives.
