Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, met with USAID Mission Director in Egypt, Sean Jones, and his accompanying delegation to explore ways of enhancing joint cooperation in developing Egypt's healthcare sector. The meeting took place on Sunday at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
At the outset of the meeting, Abdel Ghafar welcomed the USAID representatives, emphasizing the strengthening of collaboration between the agency and the Ministry of Health.
He also highlighted the importance of expanding current joint projects and launching new initiatives.
The meeting discussed several proposals for opening new avenues of cooperation in all aspects of human development, as well as aligning efforts to achieve the goals of the "Bidaya" initiative. This initiative focuses on creating synergies between ministries to invest in human capital and foster holistic development in health, society, and education, in line with the directives of the President of Egypt.
The discussion also included an assessment of joint efforts within the "Osra" program, aimed at improving reproductive health by raising public awareness of reproductive health rights and standards. This aligns with Egypt's Family Development Strategy, designed to regulate population growth and adopt effective developmental policies to achieve sustainable economic growth and enhance citizens' well-being.
Moreover, Abdel Ghafar stressed the importance of expanding specialized training courses for medical teams, primary care leaders, and rural health promoters, in collaboration with USAID.
He also mentioned the ongoing evaluation of doctors who have been trained in various governorates. Additionally, they explored opportunities for cooperation in implementing digitization efforts within primary healthcare across the country.
