Egypt’s Health Minister Dr. Hala Zayed and her accompanying delegation went through a medical check up and preventive measures upon their arrival at Cairo International Airport on Friday morning following a visit to China that lasted nearly a week.

Khaled Mujahid, the adviser to the minister of health and population for media affairs and the official spokesperson for the ministry, pointed out that samples were taken from the minister and her accompanying delegation and sent to the central laboratories.

They will also be observed for 14 days, which is the incubation period of the coronavirus.

The minister and her accompanying delegation carried a message of solidarity from Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to China, where the coronavirus started.

Zayed said, in a press conference held with China’s ambassador to Egypt  Liao Liqiang before her trip, that the visit aimed to deliver medical equipment to China as a gift from the Egyptian people.

“My visit to China falls within a framework of the Egyptian political leadership’s keenness to boost ties with the Chinese side and offer all kinds of support in these critical circumstances,” the minister stated.

She pointed out that Egypt offers assistance to China because protecting and helping China to overcome the epidemic is protecting humanity at large.

It is worth mentioning that China is trying with all its might to confront the effects resulting from the outbreak of the new Coronavirus via a series of strong and effective measures that seek to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by this deadly virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that world countries should do more and prepare for a possible pandemic because of the outbreak.

In an official statement, WHO said that it is too early to announce a pandemic now, but the countries should be in a “phase of preparedness”.

“The epidemic will be declared when the infectious disease is easily transmitted from person to person in many parts of the world,” the statement read.

The dreaded virus has infected more than 89,000 people and killed at least 3,000 since December’s outbreak in Wuhan, China.

More cases of the virus, which causes respiratory disease Covid-19, continue to emerge, with outbreaks in South Korea, Italy, and Iran.
