The Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt has announced that the country is the first in the world to be declared free of Hepatitis C by the World Health Organization.
This achievement is attributed to the success of the "100 Million Health" initiative launched by the Egyptian President, which has reduced the rate of new infections by over 92%.
The initiative involved an extensive campaign to test for Hepatitis C and detect non-communicable diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.
The campaign tested approximately 60 million people, both Egyptians and non-Egyptians, within a period of seven months.
The Ministry also reported that over two million people were diagnosed, evaluated, and treated to become free of the Hepatitis C virus.
This achievement highlights Egypt's efforts in improving public health and underscores the importance of preventative measures and early detection in combating diseases.
