Egyptologist Zahi Hawass congratulated Khaled El-Enany, former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and candidate for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), on receiving an honorary doctorate from Paul Valéry University in Montpellier, France.
El-Enany received the Doctor Honoris Causa degree from the university in the presence of the university president, Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Egypt's Ambassador to France, Dr. Shahenda Ezzat, Egypt's Cultural Counselor in France, and a group of professors and Egyptologists.
Notably, Egypt expressed its appreciation for the decision of the African Union Executive Council in its 44th session, held in Addis Ababa on February 14 and 15, and the decision of the Arab Summit in May, to endorse the nomination of Moushira Khattab, Egypt's candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt considered this endorsement as significant support for the Egyptian candidacy, especially after its approval by the Ministerial Council of the League of Arab States last year, which ensures the backing of the Arab and African blocs for the Egyptian candidate.
