German authorities evacuated the security area of Hamburg Airport and suspended flight operations on Thursday due to what police described as an ongoing security incident.
Passenger processing at security checkpoints was halted immediately, while all travelers inside the secure zone were ordered to leave. Passengers who had already boarded aircraft were also required to disembark, according to federal police spokesperson Markus Henschel.
Authorities did not disclose details about the nature of the incident, describing the evacuation only as a police measure. No timeline was provided for the resumption of passenger screening or normal airport operations.
The disruption comes as Hamburg Airport hosts a major German military exercise involving Tornado fighter jets, scheduled to continue through Friday. However, officials have not indicated whether the evacuation is linked to the ongoing military drills.
Investigations are continuing, and the cause of the security alert remains unclear.
