The Palestinian group Hamas announced on Tuesday that it has handed over all living hostages in its possession, along with the remains of those it could located.
In a statement, Hamas said it has “delivered all the living captives and the remains of bodies we were able to reach.”
The group added that efforts to locate the remaining bodies of captives would require “significant efforts and specialized equipment” to search the areas where they may be buried or trapped under rubble.
The announcement comes amid ongoing mediation efforts led by Egypt and Qatar to advance the exchange of captives and the retrieval of bodies following months of conflict in the Gaza Strip.
