The Palestinian group Hamas announced early Thursday that it has reached an agreement to end the war in Gaza following what it described as “serious and responsible negotiations” over the peace proposal presented by former U.S. President Donald Trump during talks in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
In a statement recently issued by Hamas, it said that the agreement provides for a complete ceasefire in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, the entry of humanitarian aid, and an exchange of prisoners.
The movement expressed its appreciation to mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, and praised the efforts of President Donald Trump for his role in securing what it called a “final end” to the war and ensuring Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza.
Hamas called on Trump, the guarantor states, and all Arab, Islamic, and international parties “to ensure that the Israeli government fully implements the terms of the agreement and is not allowed to evade or delay its commitments.”
The statement also saluted Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, and across the diaspora for their steadfastness and “heroic positions” in resisting “Israeli occupation and fascist projects aimed at displacing them and undermining their national rights.”
“Hamas affirms that the sacrifices of the Palestinian people will not go in vain,” the movement said, vowing to remain committed to national rights “until freedom, independence, and self-determination are achieved.”
The announcement follows weeks of intensive mediation efforts led by regional and international actors to end the months-long conflict that has devastated Gaza and strained regional stability.
