"The Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, has rejected an Israeli request to postpone the elections," said Musa Abu Marzouq, head of foreign relations and a member of the political bureau of Hamas.

In an interview with the Palestinian "Alam" radio,  Abu Marzouq said that Hamas refuses to postpone the elections, and it is not with the postponement.

President Abbas rejected the Zionist entity's request to postpone the elections," indicating that "a delay is possible in light of the existing splits within the Fatah movement."

On the other hand, the Palestinian presidency did not comment on Abu Marzouq's words, while the presidential spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeinah, pointed out that "there will be no retreat from the decision to hold the general elections because it is a democratic and popular entitlement."

Abu Rudeineh affirmed the position of President Abbas and the Palestinian leadership, that the elections should be held in accordance with presidential decrees on clear and sound rules.

He explained that the Fatah movement is determined to run in the elections with a single and unified list.

One leader of the Fatah movement, Hatem Abdel Qader, confirmed that the prisoner of the movement’s central committee, Marwan Al-Barghouti, is determined to run for the presidential elections.

Abdel-Qader said in a press statement: "According to my information,   Barghouti will not run for the Legislative Council, despite his appreciation from Fatah to top its list of candidates, as happened in 2006."

He added, "(Marwan) is determined to run for the presidential elections, and this is his right, and not only his desire but also the desire of a large segment of the Palestinian people, as evidenced by public opinion polls."

In his response to what was circulated that the Fatah Revolutionary Council recommended that Marwan Barghouti top the movement’s list for the upcoming Legislative Council elections, Abdel Qader said: “There was no session of the Revolutionary Council on this subject.”
