Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated at his home by a commando, the interim prime minister said in a statement Wednesday.
Interim Premier Claude Joseph said a group of unidentified people attacked the president's private residence late Tuesday.
Moreover, Joseph announced that the First Lady Martine Moïse is hospitalized.
Joseph condemned what he called a “hateful, inhumane and barbaric act,” adding that Haiti’s National Police and other authorities had the situation in the Caribbean country under control.
A video was leaked on social media that documents scenes of the assassination process, according to RT. The footage, recorded by a surveillance camera, shows armed men with automatic rifles in the middle of a street. You can hear the sound of bullets.
