United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has issued an urgent plea to the Iranian government to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from the use of force against demonstrators. The appeal follows a series of alarming reports detailing violent crackdowns and the excessive use of force by security forces in several locations across Iran.

According to a statement released by UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres expressed deep shock over the recent escalation of violence, which has reportedly resulted in dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries in recent days.

Upholding Universal Human Rights The UN statement emphasized that all Iranian citizens must be allowed to express their grievances peacefully and without the threat of retaliation. "The rights to freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly, as enshrined in international law, must be fully respected and protected," Dujarric stated on behalf of the Secretary-General.

Restoring Communication and Transparency In addition to calling for an end to the use of disproportionate force, the Secretary-General urged the Iranian authorities to take immediate steps to restore access to information within the country. This includes reinstating communication networks and internet services, which have been disrupted during the unrest.

The United Nations continues to monitor the situation closely, advocating for a dialogue-based approach to resolve the underlying grievances of the protesters while ensuring the safety and fundamental rights of all individuals involved.
