United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Israel to end its occupation in Palestine.
In his address at a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on the Middle East Guterres said: "Israel's occupation must end. The entire population of Gaza is enduring destruction at a scale and speed without parallel in recent history."
The UN Chief also stressed that the United Nations Security Council, composed of 15 members, supports the idea of two states living side by side within recognized and secure borders, establishing a Palestinian state in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza.
In turn, Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi noted that the Security Council has not yet called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
"What we need is real action for peace, and the only path to peace is through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967," said Safadi.
He affirmed that the Israeli Occupation has destroyed the strip and displaced more than two-thirds of the population of Gaza, adding that Tel Aviv has starved half a million Palestinians.
