UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called, on Monday, for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine to allow the evacuation of civilians.
"Secretary-General calls on the parties to enact an urgent and immediate cease-fire and allow the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from the fighting areas," United Nations (UN) spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said - in a press briefing reported by the US newspaper 'The Hill'.
In a related context, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths suggested that the Ukrainian and Russian sides should agree on a meeting to discuss humanitarian issues.
"I asked the two parties to agree on a meeting, under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) to discuss humanitarian issues, via video or in person," Griffiths said during a press conference.
