Dr. Sylvia Burger, the graduation projects general supervisor in the German University in Cairo (GUC), announced that the students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts participated in the 2020 Dubai Design Week. They participated with a number of their graduation projects in the Middle East and North Africa graduates exhibition.
The exhibition was held for the first time as a part of the international graduates exhibition in Dubai’s design week earlier this month November, 2020. It showcased the best designing projects in the media, technology, and science fields.

Dr. Nadeen Othman, a GUC professor, explained that the projects showcased in the exhibition met the it’s four main criteria: innovation, positive effect, sustainability, and education and technology.
The showcased projects included: Shahd Omar Saad’s project “Enarra” which focused on producing a solar energy handheld light unit to help the people living in remote areas with lack of electricity. The light unit is safe, environment friendly and can last up to 8 hours when fully charged.
Alaa Khalid Kamel’s project focused on creating an application called “Tabteel” to help drug addicts and provide them with the names of the nearest facilities and doctors as well as supporting books and printings. The application also includes different ways for the patients to contact the doctors or facilities immediately which helps the patients in avoiding relapse.

Lydia Medhat’s and Mostafa El Azazzi’s project focused on creating an application for the families of the Alzheimer’s patients. The application allows its users to monitor the patient and control all the machines surrounding him. It also has a reminder system for all the medications and doctor appointments.
Farida Fatouh’s project focused on creating an application called “Green Wave” which helps in collecting the non-degradable plastic from its using audience in exchange of money.
Amira Osama’s and Galila El Jefry’s project included launching a website called “CMD+EH” to invite designers from all around the world to design labels that focus on the current world problems. The website’s goal is to help show the different world problems in an artistic and beautiful way. A new problem is set to be chosen every year with this year’s problem being the plastic pollution in Egypt.

Habiba Ismail’s project, which took the COVID-19 pandemic into consideration, focused on creating an application to help travelers know the busy and crowded places so they can avoid them.
Engy El Belbiesy’s project which was called “Maslaha”. The project focused on designing a new Arabic font that will save 10% of the government’s annual ink cost and decrease the percentage of pollution resulting from using plastic ink tanks.
Engy El Shenawy’s project focused on creating an application called “Perfect Mistake” to demolish the perfection standard and help people embrace their mistakes. The application comes with an electronic book to help its users be more confident and learn from their mistakes through 100 different exercises for self-improvement.

Farah Yasser’s project focused on creating a learning tool for the children in Mansheya El Nasr. The tool includes a number of cubes with different Arabic letters printed on them so that the children can compete in forming new words to go on the tool’s board.
It is worth mentioning that a group of students worked on developing a website called “Camp Cycle” to help organize the children’s summer camps. That will, in turn, teach the children more about the environment and its challenges.
