The Greek Ministry of Defense revealed today that a Greek warship participating in the European Union's maritime mission in the Red Sea intercepted two drones launched by the Houthis from Yemen towards a commercial vessel.

A Greek army official stated that this morning, the Greek frigate Hydra, accompanying a commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden, fired upon two drones.

He added that one was destroyed while the other fled. Another official from the Ministry of Defense confirmed the details of the incident.

Greece deployed a frigate to participate in the European Union mission in the region, which began in February to assist in protecting maritime trade routes from attacks by the Houthis using drones and missiles.

The Houthis claim to target commercial ships in response to Israel's war on Gaza.
