Greek Prime Minister (PM) Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the latest developments in Ukraine and the ongoing war with Russia since February 2022 on Friday.
According to Greek newspaper "Kathimerini", Mitsotakis and Macron also discussed a number of bilateral issues ahead of the European Political Group summit and the informal European Council meeting, which are scheduled to be held next week in Granada, on October 5 and 6.
Greek government sources said that Mitsotakis informed Macron that Greece "will remain consistent" in its border security policy, adding that cooperation among EU member states is essential to prevent departures from third countries and discourage smuggling networks from putting people on boats.
This comes on the sidelines of meetings of the leaders of the nine EU member states in the Mediterranean, which are currently being held in Valletta, Malta, as the EU is trying to reach an agreement on ways to deal with asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.
