Greek Prime Minister (PM) Kyriakos Mitsotakis, congratulated President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the people of Egypt on the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), stating that the GEM will become a global hub for learning, inspiration, and dialogue.
In a statement issued by the Greek PM on this occasion, he said: "I would like to express my warmest congratulations to Egypt's President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and to the Egyptian people, on the completion and inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, a historic achievement rooted in vision and dedication, and a tribute to the enduring legacy of Egyptian civilization."
He added, "The Grand Egyptian Museum is more than just a space for preserving history; it is an institution that bridges eras, connecting the timeless achievements of the past with the aspirations of the present and the promise of the future. It reflects the conviction that culture, when nurtured and shared, becomes a global force for dialogue, understanding, and peace."
Moreover, Mitsotakis affirmed that Greece and Egypt, having inherited two of the oldest civilizations in the Mediterranean, are bound by geography, friendship, and mutual respect—bonds that trace back to the exchange of ideas and knowledge between Alexandria and Athens, where philosophy, science, and art once converged to shape the foundations of human civilization.
Mitsotakis stated, "Today, our Strategic Partnership stands stronger than ever, encompassing not only political and economic cooperation but also a shared vision for stability, security, and prosperity across the broader region. This enduring alliance draws its strength from our common history and our shared belief in a future built on peace and progress."
He added, "The opening of this museum is not just a national achievement for Egypt, but a celebration for all who believe in the power of heritage to illuminate humanity's collective journey. It reminds us that the treasures of the past are not merely relics of memory, but sources of wisdom and creativity that guide us toward a more enlightened future."
He expressed confidence that the "Grand Egyptian Museum will become a global center for learning, inspiration, and dialogue—a place where history meets humanity and where the greatness of Egyptian civilization continues to inspire generations to come."
