The Greek parliament is set to ratify the maritime demarcation deal with Egypt and the establishment of an exclusive economic zone between the two countries during its plenary session scheduled for next week at the parliament headquarters in the Greek capital, Athens.
On August 6, the two countries’ foreign ministers signed a maritime demarcation deal which reflected the distinction of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the availability of strong political will to advance it at various levels.
Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry pointed out the new agreement paves the way for more regional cooperation between the Egyptian and Greek sides in the field of energy.
Sisi and Mitsotakis exchange congratulations on the maritime deal
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call last Thursday from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
Rady stated that the call dealt with exchanging congratulations on the occasion of the signing of the agreement defining the maritime borders between Egypt and Greece in Cairo.
“It was agreed during the call that the signing of the maritime border agreement between the two countries is a historical development of bilateral relations,” Rady added.
The agreement contributes to achieving security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region, as well as providing Egypt and Greece with the opportunity to exploit their natural resources to achieve the interests of the two friendly peoples.
