Greek Foreign Minister (FM) Giorgos Gerapetritis expressed his country’s profound appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting peace and stability efforts in the Middle East, commending Egyptian initiatives aimed at de-escalating crises and promoting political solutions.
During a joint press conference with his Egyptian and Cypriot counterparts, the Greek Foreign Minister emphasized the necessity of supporting stability in Syria.
He stressed the importance of implementing a comprehensive political process involving all segments of the Syrian people to ensure the unity of the Syrian state and preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Greek FM also noted that his country welcomes the launch of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip, expressing hope that this step will contribute to alleviating civilian suffering and supporting the path toward de-escalation.
He further explained that the relations binding Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus represent a successful model for regional cooperation based on mutual understanding and shared interests, thereby enhancing security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
In a related context, the Greek FM underscored the importance of reducing escalation with Iran, calling for the prioritization of diplomatic solutions to avoid further tensions that could threaten the security and stability of the entire region.
