Greek Defense Minister Outlines Major Military Reform for 2026

​Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias stated that Greece enters 2026 in the midst of a comprehensive reform of its armed forces, emphasizing a strategic shift toward modernization, innovation, and investment in personnel amid changing geopolitical conditions.

​In a New Year’s address during a meeting with troops, Dendias outlined the government’s military reform program. 

Moroever, he described it as a comprehensive plan to modernize the armed forces, restructure their organization, strengthen the domestic defense industry, and improve career paths and benefits for service members.

​The Greek minister noted that the armed forces serve as a "foundational pillar of stability" in a turbulent region.

​He also reaffirmed the military's role in protecting Greece's sovereignty and assisting society during emergencies, noting that both the government and the people recognize and rely on the mission of the armed forces.
