Greek health authorities have announced a state of heightened alert to prevent the spread of the monkeypox (Mpox) virus and to ensure early detection of the disease.
In response to the global health emergency declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) due to the virus's spread in Africa, Greece is taking proactive measures, including the expansion of vaccination centers for high-risk groups.
According to a report by the Greek newspaper Kathimerini on Sunday, the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) has emphasized that, despite the global concerns, the risk of monkeypox transmission within Greece remains "low" at this time.
Nonetheless, the country is ramping up its preventive efforts to safeguard public health.
In addition to these measures, Greek health officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that any potential cases are swiftly identified and contained.
The move comes as part of a broader strategy to protect vulnerable populations and to maintain Greece's low infection rate amid the ongoing global health challenges posed by Mpox.
