Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has formally welcomed the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, expressing Greece's readiness to provide assistance to ensure the agreement's success.

In separate phone conversations on Thursday, Mitsotakis spoke with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the declaration of the temporary truce. According to reports from the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, the Prime Minister emphasized the regional importance of maintaining the cessation of hostilities.

Commitment to Sovereignty and Stability

During the discussions, the Greek leader underscored a critical requirement for long-term peace: the Lebanese government's full control over its entire national territory. Mitsotakis highlighted that a sovereign and empowered central government in Beirut is essential for regional security and for preventing future escalations.

"Greece stands ready to offer assistance wherever and whenever it is needed," the Prime Minister's office stated, reinforcing Athens' role as a stabilizing mediator in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Regional Implications

The 10-day ceasefire is being viewed by European leaders as a vital "breathing space" to allow for humanitarian aid and the potential for more permanent diplomatic negotiations. Mitsotakis reaffirmed that regional stability hinges on the strict adherence to the truce by all parties involved.

Greece, maintainining strong ties with both nations, remains one of the few EU members positioned to provide logistical and diplomatic support during this delicate transition period.
