Grand Mufti of Egypt Dr. Shawki Allam said that those who died from Coronavirus are considered martyrs, according to what Journalist Hamdy Rizk reported in Friday’s episode of his program, “Nazra” on “Sada El Balad” satellite channel.

Rizk reviewed Allam’s top ten fatwas, advisory opinions, during the previous episodes of the program.

Allam asserted that those who died due to Coronavirus are considered “martyrs”, stressing that the prophet said that who died from an epidemic deserved the title of “martyr.”

However, he mentioned that there was distinction between the “martyr” in that case, and the “martyr” in the battle, since the latter has different rulings.

Notewirthy, Egypt saw on Friday a rise in the daily coronavirus cases, confirming 579 new infections, raising the total cases to 124,280 since the beginning of the virus outbreak.

“Twenty-six more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 7,041,” Khaled Megahed, the Health Ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement.

“Up to 106,157 coronavirus patients have recovered so far,” the spokesman said.

“As many as 238 Egyptians were among the recovered patients today,” he added.

The vaccine was developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm, and has been shipped from the United Arab Emirates, as Zayed and the Chinese ambassador to Egypt, and UAE acting ambassador were present to receive the vaccine.

“The vaccine efficacy ranges between 86% to 100%,” Megahed noted.

He also mentioned that the priority in distributing the vaccine will be for medical staff in isolation, fever, and chest hospitals, as well as people with chronic diseases.

The vaccine should be injected into the shoulder muscle in two doses, with a 21-day interval.
