Al Azhar Grand Imam affirmed that President Sisi has been keen, since his first day in office, on the unity of the Egyptian people, praising the great appreciation and continuous support for Al-Azhar’s role and status.
"We have seen from him a continuous appreciation for the role of Al-Azhar and its global status, whether in sponsoring its conferences – such as the Citizenship Conference and the Al-Azhar Conference for the Support of Jerusalem, and others – or supporting its projects or preserving its jurisdictions", the Grand Imam explained.
He added in an interview published by "Sawt Al-Azhar" newspaper: "While the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Sisi, waged a fierce war on terrorism, Al-Azhar was strongly present in the intellectual arena of that battle."
He also praised the role played by the Egyptian state in dealing with the developments in the Gaza Strip and its efforts to stop the Israeli aggression, stressing that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi chose the path that befits Egypt’s history, stressing that Cairo adhered to a course that is consistent with its history and status, and dealt with the issue with the utmost integrity and responsibility, despite the pressures it faced.
The Grand Imam pointed out that The Egyptian position reflects firm principles in the state’s foreign policy towards Arab and humanitarian issues, and confirms its constant commitment to the rights of peoples and their legitimate interests.
