HE Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the MCE, met with Mr. Abdul Latif Rashid, President of Iraq, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

Grand Imam At-Tayyeb stressed the importance of Muslim and Arab unity in facing contemporary challenges confronting the nation, foremost among them being the brutal aggression on Gaza and Lebanon. He maintained that the only way to curb the bloodthirsty occupier is by adhering to the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): "The believers, in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion, are like a single body; when one limb suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever."
Grand Imam At-Tayyeb reiterated his commitment to representing and involving all Muslim countries, religious authorities, scholars, and Islamic jurisprudence specialists from various Muslim sects in the activities of the Intra-Islamic Conference, which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain early next year. The Iraqi President praised the conference's topic and its importance in bringing the nation's scholars to a single dialogue table, assuring that Iraq will ensure distinguished representation in line with the conference's significance.
President Abdul Latif Rashid expressed his appreciation on behalf of Iraq's leadership and people for the Grand Imam's stance on the aggression on Gaza. He noted that the Grand Imam’s statements and Al-Azhar's issued declarations on this matter are followed closely by all segments of the Iraqi people, who hold great respect and admiration for Al-Azhar and its scholars.
The Iraqi President emphasized the urgent need for an immediate halt to the aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, stating that this can only be achieved through Arab solidarity and Muslim unity. He pointed out that the Western stance on these conflicts is biased in favor of the occupying entity and stressed that Iraq supports the rights of the Palestinian people and will continue to do so until they obtain their full rights, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
President Rashid renewed his invitation for the Grand Imam to visit Iraq, highlighting the importance of this visit to the Iraqi people and the message of support it represents for Iraq. Grand Imam At-Tayyeb confirmed his eagerness to accept the kind invitation at the earliest possible opportunity.
