The Grammy Awards ceremony, due to take place on Jan. 31, has been postponed to March 14 due to the coronavirus surge in Los Angeles, organizers announced on Tuesday.

The new date, announced by the Recording Academy and broadcaster CBS in a joint statement, come in conflict with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards ceremony for film and television.

The organizers revealed that the ceremony had been delayed after talks with health experts and musicians.

“After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host, and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021,” the statement said.

The SAG-AFTRA union, which represents actors, journalists, and performers, announced that they were “extremely disappointed” on the conflicting date, which it announced last July to give possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows.

Los Angeles is experiencing a spike in coronavirus deaths and hospital admissions. Gyms, hair salons, and restaurants have been shut down. The residents urged to stay at home as much as possible.
