Gov't Provides EGP 2 Billion for Development of Historic Cairo

Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly reaffirmed the state’s keenness to implement several projects that contribute to restoring the historic Cairo to its previous state, in a way that reflects the Egyptian culture over the ages, indicating in this regard that the funding provided for revival and development amounts to EGP 2 billion, stressing at the same time the importance of speedy completion of the executive engineering drawings.

Madbouly followed up in a, meeting on Wednesday, the executive position of projects to revive and develop the historic Cairo regions, in the presence of Khaled Abdel Aal, Governor of Cairo, Khaled Seddik, CEO of the Informal Settlements Development Fund, and Engineer Mohamed Al-Khatib, consultant for the Historic Cairo Development Project.

Cabinet spokesman Nader Saad stated that the meeting reviewed the development of 5 main priority areas from the heritage areas, which are: the ones surrounding Al-Hakim Mosque ​(14 feddans), the area south of Bab Zuweila (8.5 feddans), ​​Haret Al-Roum and Bab Zuweila ​(8 feddans), the area surrounding the Al-Hussein Mosque (11 feddans), and Darb Al-Labbana area with an area of ​​10.5 feddans.

Saad added that it was agreed that the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces would carry out the development work of Historic Cairo, and it was also agreed to form a technical committee to review the technical outputs from the consulting offices to determine the status of the development areas and the required needs.

"The presentation indicated that the executive drawings for 21 facades of the Environmental Design Group office were prepared, and the architectural designs of Bab Zuweila area were fully completed, as well as the initial design of  Al Hakim area, in addition to the proposal to develop the North Wall Museum, Bab Al Nasr, and Bab Al Futuh," He concluded.
