The Cabinet, in its sixty-third meeting today, headed by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, approved the issuance of non-circulating commemorative coins to celebrate the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), scheduled for November 1st.

Gold and Silver Coins in Multiple Denominations

A Cabinet statement clarified that the coins will be issued in both gold and silver, in denominations of one pound, five pounds, ten pounds, twenty-five pounds, fifty pounds, and one hundred pounds. This is intended to immortalize this cultural and historical event, which represents a landmark in the trajectory of modern Egyptian heritage. These coins will be non-circulating, meaning they will not be released for daily monetary use, but rather issued as commemorative pieces for collectors and investors in precious metals.

The Grand Egyptian Museum… The Cultural Project of the Century

The Grand Egyptian Museum is considered one of the largest museums in the world and a new cultural facade for Egypt to the world. It is located on an area of approximately 500,000 square meters near the Giza Pyramids and houses over 100,000 artifacts representing various ancient Egyptian eras, including the complete collection of King Tutankhamun for the first time since its discovery. The project aims to be a global center for Egyptian civilization, combining authenticity with modern technology in museum display, tourism, and cultural management.

Economic and Cultural Symbolism

The issuance of commemorative coins reflects the State's orientation towards linking heritage with economics, as these pieces represent a dual value: historical and investment. Economic experts believe that issuing gold and silver coins for a major national occasion contributes to enhancing local demand for precious metals. It also reflects the government's confidence in the economic symbolism of the yellow metal as a safe haven and a value that preserves purchasing power over time.

The Egyptian Mint on the Production Line

The Egyptian Mint, affiliated with the Ministry of Finance, is scheduled to undertake the execution of the new issuance according to the highest technical and aesthetic standards, including artistic designs that embody the Grand Egyptian Museum, its history, and its future vision.

A Global Opening Awaited by the World

The opening ceremony is expected to be attended by high-level leaders of nations, global cultural institutions, and international organizations, in an event anticipated to be the largest in the history of modern museums, thereby reinforcing Egypt's position as the capital of human heritage.
