On Thursday, the Egyptian government approved a draft resolution to amend some provisions of the 2019 decision regarding the granting of Egyptian citizenship to foreigners.

The new draft restores the previous provision that requires applicants to purchase real estate worth at least $500,000 in order to be eligible for citizenship. This decision comes after the required amount was reduced to $300,000 in March, according to the Egyptian Cabinet.

Additionally, applicants will now be able to pay the $10,000 fee required for proving the purchase of real estate in Egyptian pounds. The updated decree will also provide detailed information on the documents required of property buyers seeking citizenship.

Furthermore, applicants must provide a statement demonstrating that they will not sell the property before five years and evidence that the property is registered with the Real Estate Registry or is supervised by a government authority in one of the governorates.
