Google has announced a record $15 billion investment to establish a major artificial intelligence and data center hub in India, marking the tech giant’s largest single commitment to the country to date.
The massive facility, set to be developed in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh between 2026 and 2030, will become Google’s biggest AI base outside the United States. The initiative forms part of a broader global network of AI centers spanning 12 countries.
According to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, the new project will act as a digital backbone connecting different regions of India while accelerating AI innovation and driving growth across the nation.
The upcoming campus will begin operations with a 1-gigawatt power capacity, with plans to expand to multiple gigawatts as AI-driven computing demand rises. It will also feature a new international subsea gateway and large-scale energy infrastructure to support its extensive operations.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai discussed the development with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting its importance in strengthening India’s digital economy and AI ecosystem.
With India expected to exceed 900 million internet users by the end of the year, the country’s growing appetite for AI-driven tools and cloud services positions it as one of the fastest-expanding markets for advanced digital infrastructure globally.
