Google Maps to Rename Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America

Google Maps will update the name of the "Gulf of Mexico" to the "Gulf of America" within the United States once the change is officially recognized by the US Board on Geographic Names, according to Sky News.

The modification will be visible to users in the US, while Mexican users will continue to see "Gulf of Mexico." For those outside both countries, Google Maps will display both names.

The US Department of the Interior, under President Donald Trump, confirmed on Friday that it had officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America."

Additionally, the peak of Denali in Alaska—North America’s tallest mountain—has been reverted to its former name, "Mount McKinley."

As a subsidiary of Alphabet, Google will reflect these name changes on its mapping platform, aligning with the administration’s directive.

The renaming is part of a series of executive actions signed by Trump immediately after taking office on January 20, fulfilling key campaign promises.
