Google has launched a major upgrade to its AI assistant Gemini, introducing a new feature that allows users to instantly convert generated text into fully formatted, downloadable files such as Word documents and PDFs directly within the chat interface.
The update marks a significant shift in how users interact with AI-generated content, eliminating the need for manual copying, formatting, or transferring text between applications.
According to a report by Digital Trends, the new functionality supports a wide range of file formats, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides, as well as common export types such as PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), plain text, and Markdown.
The system works through a simple prompt-based process, where users describe the desired output and select the file type. Gemini then automatically generates a properly structured document ready for immediate use, without requiring manual formatting or editing.
Google said the feature is designed to streamline productivity by reducing the time spent reorganizing AI-generated content across different platforms. Tasks that previously required multiple steps can now be completed in a single action.
The new capability has wide implications for both professional and academic use. Users can convert meeting notes into structured PDFs, automatically turn weekly data into Excel spreadsheets, or generate formatted reports highlighting key insights.
It also enables faster creation of presentations and summaries, making it easier to transform early-stage ideas into polished, shareable documents.
Google confirmed that the feature will be available to all Gemini users, including both free and paid tiers, and will be supported across web and mobile platforms, expanding accessibility to a global user base.
