Google Doodle paid today, Monday, an homage to one of Egyptian cinema’s most iconic leading women, late veteran actress, Shadia.
Who is Shadia?
The iconic star was born Fatma Ahmed Kamal in 1931. Her talent was first recognized by her family. At 16, Shadia’s father entered her into a talent competition where she caught the attention of two prominent Egyptian directors, who later helped launch her film career.
The veteran performer's skills as an actress and singer made her a darling of the Arab entertainment industry for close to forty years.
She starred in over 100 roles, from movies to radio plays, and garnered widespread critical acclaim for her comedic and dramatic performances alike.
Many of her films featured iconic musical performance, which has been regarded as classics of Egyptian cinema for over a decade, like her song "Aa'la Esh El Hob" in the 1962 film “El Zawga El 13” (Wife Number 13).
