The theme for this year is "Restore Our Earth" which focuses on natural processes and emerging green technologies that can restore the world's ecosystems.
The animated video highlighted the importance of planting seeds for a brighter and greener future, as it showed a variety of trees being planted within natural habitats, shedding light on one of the many ways in which people can do their part to keep the Earth healthy for future generations.
"Earth Day is special every year, but this year in particular I've grown to appreciate the grounding influence of trees,” doodle designer Sophie Diao said.
“A big part of each day for me is looking out my window and admiring the variety of species-bronze loquat, bougainvillea, jacaranda, sweet michelia, wisteria and more-that make up the urban forest of the street I live on,” Diao explained. "As each year passes, I've looked forward to seeing them bloom, leaf out and grow a little bit taller."
"Earth Day" is celebrated worldwide every year on April 22 to raise public awareness about the environment, inspiring and calling on people to save and protect it.
More than 1 billion people in 192 countries now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world, according to Earth.org.
