Goldman Sachs appointed Michael Bosworth as interim General Counsel and a member of the firm's core Executive Leadership Team, following the departure of Kathryn Ruemmler, whose tenure officially ended on June 30.
The leadership change comes amid heightened scrutiny surrounding Rommel after documents released earlier this year by the U.S. Department of Justice alleged that she accepted gifts from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and advised him on responding to media inquiries related to legal cases against him.
Ruemmler is scheduled to testify before the U.S. House Oversight Committee in mid-July as part of its ongoing investigation into matters related to Epstein.
The controversy has also drawn attention from Capitol Hill. U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi have raised concerns with Goldman Sachs Chief Executive David Solomon over reports suggesting Ruemmler could continue advising the bank after leaving her post despite her connection to the case.
Goldman Sachs declined to comment on reports regarding any potential advisory role for Rommel following her departure.
Separately, the bank announced that Erica Leslie, the firm's Chief Administrative Officer, has joined its senior executive leadership team as part of broader changes to Goldman Sachs' management structure.
