“The Light of Peace Diamond,” jewelry auction is estimated to sell for between $10 million and $15 million.
The Christie’s Jewels auction is scheduled for June 7.
The D-color, internally flawless, Type IIa, pear brilliant-cut diamond weighs 126.76 carats. It is being offered without reserve.
The stone previously was named the “Zale Light of Peace” when the Zale Corp. of Dallas, which is now part of Signet Jewelers Ltd., owned it.
Zales would charge for showings of the diamonds and use ticket sale proceeds to support charities. The Light of Peace is therefore synonymous with giving back, Christie’s said.
Now owned by a private party, a portion of the proceeds of the rock’s sale will benefit USA for UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency
