Dr. Maged Mousa, Director General of Cairo Airport Customs, said that there was no issue with the entrance of citizens possessing gold nuggets or gold artifacts, provided they informed the customs committee officer at the airport about it.

He added that some citizens inform what they retain, which gets given to the Stamp and Scales Authority for examination and evaluation.

The country determined about 10% exam and evaluation fees and 14% value for the citizens' gold.

He added that the passengers are allowed up to EGP 10,000 in gifts.

Mousa pointed out that women wearing gold jewellery as social status and in reasonable quantities are exempted from customs as it is not commercialized.

He explained that citizens concealing their possession will be charged with tax evasion and forced to pay customs fees, which are about 24% of the gold price.

In addition to the interest fees and the Ministry of Foreign Trade fees, in the event of non-reconciliation, the shipment is sent abroad again, with the citizen bearing these costs.
