Today, the Minister of Interior Plenipotentiary in the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, held a "High-level security meeting" with the Egyptian delegation that arrived in the capital, Tripoli.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the GNA interior minister confirmed that the meeting, which was held in the presence of the head of the intelligence service of Al-Wefaq, Imad Al-Trabelsi, dealt with "Common security challenges and ways to enhance security cooperation between the two brotherly countries."

The statement indicated that the meeting discussed ways to support the ceasefire agreement in Libya and "The outputs of the 5+5 committee to support the international efforts on political dialogue, also to get out of the current crisis by political and peaceful means."

The statement pointed out that the meeting comes "Within the security policies of the Ministry of Interior, which aims to consolidate cooperation relations with neighboring countries and the importance of joint work between Cairo and Tripoli."

Egypt is one of the biggest supporters of the "Libyan National Army" led by Khalifa Haftar, which launched a military campaign in April last year to wrest Tripoli, from the Turkish-backed government of reconciliation.

This meeting comes to contribute in achieving tangible results within the efforts to settle the Libyan crisis in the past months, including reaching agreements on forming unified government institutions and holding elections.

The Egyptian delegation arrived in Tripoli a day after the Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar visited it.
