Spanish on-demand courier GLOVO has amended its online delivery service in Egypt, offering financial incentives to customers for the number of delivery operations they perform weekly.

Under the new incentives, the captain would receive a commission of EGP 300 when executing 20 orders per week, EGP 600 for 40 orders and EGP 900 for 60 orders, and the incentive increases to EGP 1400 for 85 orders.

It is noteworthy that the captain was receiving EGP 120 for the implementation of 10 orders and EGP 300 on 20 orders and EGP 550 on 35 orders and EGP 800 on 50 orders and EGP 1200 on 70 orders.

In a related context, the company notified about the approaching contract with Mahran bikes to provide maintenance services for bicycles and sale at discounted prices with the availability of accessories.

Glovo Egypt employs more than 13,000 pilots, of which 70% are cyclists.

Next year, the company plans to invest € 5.1 million in Egypt by expanding into new cities, apart from Cairo, Giza and Alexandria and launching major marketing campaigns.

Last May, the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) has revealed, following investigations, that  Glovo and Delivery Hero have been following monopolistic practices that violate Article 6 of the Competition Protection Act (CPA).

The investigations showed that an agreement was made between the two services to undermine competition. “This agreement was the main reason for the company’s exit from the Egyptian market,” ECA stated.
